Alma's Secret
By Ora Krupik
Alma is a girl like all girls: she is a good student, she likes to hang out with her classmates, she she attend after school programs and even volunteers and contributes to society as part of a class project.
But the the young girl has a secret that obscures her life like a gloomy cloud, a secret she only shares with her best friend Mia and repeatedly asks her not to reveal: her older brother, Yogev, is dealing with social difficulties and drinking problems, and his condition is deteriorating.
Alma's parents advocate a permissive education and do not interfere with the situation, and Alma is forced to bear the consequences of dealing with Yogev alone. The book describes Alma's coping with the situation and allows children to identify with her, learn from her ways of coping and develop personal strategies for dealing with complex life situations.
